SO MANY QUESTIONS (2020 ongoing)
In the early days of the pandemic, when I was in lockdown and away from my studio and supplies, I began to revisit the treasure trove of digitized images that I have on my computer. In the late 50’s and early 60’s my father was part of the burgeoning camera culture making snap shots. I love to dig into these photos, a window to the past, albeit a confusing one. What interests me about photography is the before and after. How was the photograph posed? Why was that choice made in that moment in time and who made the decision? And what did we go back to once the shot was taken? I am fascinated by these unanswerable questions. Why are we laughing or why do we look so serious? In this process of questioning what the photograph is telling me, I alter the existing image to suit or amplify the narrative that I perceive.
